Freedom Personal Safety (FPS) is a small but mighty non-profit tackling violence against women and girls. With support from the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, they’ve been delivering powerful, tailored sessions in local schools, helping young people and families build confidence, make safe choices, and navigate challenges.
Every session they deliver is tailored to the group they’re working with, whether it’s primary pupils, secondary students, or parents and carers.
At Gorse Hill Primary School, FPS worked with Years 5 and 6, exploring essential themes such as:
Through stories, discussions, games, and role play, children were given a safe space to share experiences, develop strategies, and grow in confidence.
At Stretford High School, FPS delivered its Safe on the Streets self-defence workshops to 280 students. These high-energy, hands-on sessions combined practical safety advice with physical demonstrations—earning praise from both students and staff.
Chris Hirst, Head of Life Skills, shared:
“Julie’s approach has been energetic, enthusiastic and positive with all age ranges of students, allowing them to fully engage… She’s also encouraged quieter students in a subtler way, ensuring that these are inclusive sessions at all times. From a staff point of view, it has been a pleasure to take part, and we’ve learnt loads as well!”
This September, FPS will run Happy, Healthy, Safe sessions for parents and carers, creating a relaxed space to explore how to talk to children about safety, relationships, peer pressure, and life online.
It’s all part of FPS’s mission to build safer, more confident communities – one conversation at a time.
