Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit

Over six inspiring weeks, Maverick Lab CIC delivered its Young Leaders Course to a group of male pupils from Newhouse Academy in Heywood. The program, designed to foster personal and professional growth, left a lasting impression on participants, school staff, and employers alike.

A Pathway to the Future

Funded by the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, the program equipped the students with essential skills to navigate their career and personal journeys.

From exploring self-discovery and goal-setting to learning about emotional intelligence, participants were guided through a structured and interactive curriculum.
Louise Jamieson, Careers Administrator at Newhouse Academy, praised the initiative, stating:

“The course was outstanding and very beneficial to our pupils. It has helped them focus on the future and plan for their next steps after school. We look forward to working together again with other pupils in the near future. Thank you.”

Real-World Insights from Industry Leaders

A key highlight of the course was the involvement of employer guest speakers from Wilmott Dixon Construction and First Buses. These professionals provided invaluable insights into their industries, shared pathways to careers, and offered practical guidance on work experience opportunities.

Pupils expressed their appreciation for the program with comments such as:

• “It was really effective and helped me see the future.”
