Launched in October 2023, the Parent and Carer Support (PACS) service provides those worried about the young people they care for with practical and helpful advice, to maintain trusting relationships and deal with challenging behaviours.
The service is funded by the Violence Reduction Unit and delivered by Oasis UK.
One to one support
Based on the same model of engagement as the Navigators, Parents and Carers create their own support plans. PACS workers also offer support and advocacy at professional meetings and short-term crisis intervention support.
Encounter
The PACS team deliver an eight-week course called Encounter. The course is based on the principals of Non-Violent Resistance (NVR). This is a fantastic therapeutic programme that is especially of benefit to parents who are struggling to maintain boundaries and high-parental presence in the home.
Workshops and support groups
Led by parental request the team host a wide range of workshops and support groups such as Move and Mind, SEN support, coffee mornings.
Access to Counselling and Therapeutic Services
We believe that parents need to look after themselves. For parents that identify that their past and present trauma impacts their ability to parent we can connect them with therapeutic services to provide them with a space to look at this.
Peer Support
As part of Encounter parents are connected with each other and will have access to chat groups to offer encouragement and support when they need it most. For parents that complete the Encounter programme there is also the opportunity to give back and become a Peer Practitioner on a future course.
