StreetDoctors Young Leaders

StreetDoctors hosted a morning of celebration for their young leaders this October, marking the contribution of the young people engaging with, delivering and championing the programme across Greater Manchester.

StreetDoctors is a charity that hosts learning and development workshops as a means of early intervention for young people. Local strategies aim to disrupt local street violence, increase safe intervention through lifesaving skills, reduce youth reoffending with rehabilitation and enhance the skills of young people through leadership programmes.

A key part of the structure of programmes under StreetDoctors is co-design. Everything is designed for young people, by young people, with young people. Through sharing knowledge, opportunities, skills and identity, we offer young people a hopeful and exciting path that may not have always felt possible.

The Young Leaders are voices within their community that have been trained in lifesaving tips in the event of a stabbing. Young Leaders will have been reached as part of the school and community initiatives and have since independently committed themselves to sharing knowledge with their peers and delivering sessions within the community.

StreetDoctors worked closely with the Young Leaders on their programme in the creation of their “Fatal Question” campaign, which can be watched here: https://youtu.be/ujR3HyyQNpk?si=oHGnEDGmHsWckdf4

Damian Dallimore, Director of the GMVRU, said:

“We heard from young people about the phenomenal work that they’re doing with StreetDoctors, the amazing charity that helps to tackle the root causes of knife crime, and educate young people about a range of things, including the amazing Fatal Question campaign.

“We want to get that out as far as we can into schools and communities so that people can hear directly from young people about the experiences that they have had in pulling together this video and educating people about there being no safe place to stab.”

As a VRU, we are proud of the work that StreetDoctors do that allows the young people of Greater Manchester to flourish and showcase their talent, courage and curiosity.
