To mark Knife Crime Awareness Week, the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has worked in partnership with Peerscroller to create a short film designed to challenge young people’s attitudes towards carrying knives.

Peerscroller is a Greater Manchester based digital safeguarding and PSHE platform that gives young people, teachers, parents and carers a go-to source of reliable, relatable information, bridging the gap between school and home. Through short-form videos made for, and by, young people, Peerscroller explores key issues such as healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing, misogyny and harmful online content.

This new film focuses on the decisions young people make and the consequences that can follow. At the heart of the film is a simple but powerful question often asked after serious incidents involving young people: ‘Why?’

The film encourages young people to think differently about the long-term impact of carrying a knife, while also recognising the pressures that can influence their choices. By supporting early education and open conversations, the aim is to help prevent violence and promote safer communities.

The film will be shared across Greater Manchester and used by schools, colleges and youth organisations as part of wider work to prevent violence and support safer communities.
