Michael Phipps has received an MBE for services to young people, in appreciation for his work in the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit to engage communities in violence prevention and for inspiring young people to achieve their potential.
Michael has more than 20 years’ experience in the youth and community sector, managing universal services and designing mentoring programmes to support those young people who are more vulnerable to becoming victims of exploitation and crime. As Strategic Lead for Communities in the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit, employed by Bolton CVS and working alongside 10GM, his role involves commissioning and co-designing community-led, violence reduction programmes.
Michael said:
“It’s a huge honour and I’m so proud to be recognised by my colleagues and The King. I have always had a passion to support young people, raise aspirations and be a positive role model for young people in Manchester.
“What we do in the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit impacts many lives and we are regularly contacted to share our approach with other regions across the UK.”
The Violence Reduction Unit team are beyond proud of Michael’s achievement and remain grateful for his continued enthusiastic provision of support, expertise, generosity and hope for the young people of Greater Manchester.
