The ‘We Can Work It Out’ employability programme launched on 9 December, designed for young people aged 16-25 living in Hulme, Moss Side and Rusholme. This is a dedicated programme of youth investment set up by the Peace Alliance and funded by the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit and The Royal Foundation. This programme is delivered in partnership with The Hideaway Youth Project, Odd Arts, Rio Ferdinand Foundation, 84 Youth, and Families Against Violence.

Young people involved with the ‘We Can Work It Out’ programme can expect to receive a course of training, development and mentorship that is designed to equip them with the necessary skills for the workplace. Weaved into the development programme are consistent opportunities to receive guidance surrounding pathways into employment. The powerful collaboration of organisations from different sectors ensures that progression is comprehensive yet tailored.

One potential career route is provided by the Growth Company, this organisation can provide specialist training and certification for careers within different trades. The goal is to refine an individual’s interests to find a career that fits, as well as equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive within an industry. We want Greater Manchester to be a place where great jobs are available and achievable, so we are working hard to provide younger members of our community with a clear line of sight to jobs through education, training and support, a key element of the Greater Manchester Strategy.

Prince William attended the announcement of the programme last year where goals for the following 12-months were set. Now ready to be rolled out, the launch event celebrated the progress and hard work put in so far. It is anticipated that this programme will make a real difference to the young people taking part and we look forward to sharing the progress and achievements in the near future.
