On Tuesday 23 September, Bramble House in Worsley Hall, Wigan, came alive with laughter, creativity and community spirit as the Worsley Hall Alliance hosted an open evening for local young people.

The event marked an exciting step forward in the Alliance’s growing youth offer, providing a safe, welcoming space for young people to connect, take part in positive activities, and have a say in what happens in their community.

Around 30 young people joined the evening, including three first-time attendees eager to get involved. From under-the-sea-themed arts and crafts to biscuit decorating, football and rugby tournaments, and even a taster boxing session, there was something for everyone.

What made the evening really special was the way young people shaped it. Each week, they decide what activities they’d like to see, helping them build confidence, leadership skills and a sense of ownership over their youth club.

Staff from the Worsley Hall Alliance were joined by partners from the local Family Hub, who are working closely with the group to build new opportunities and strengthen community support. Together, they’re already planning a calendar of events for the months ahead, including Halloween celebrations, Christmas activities and cooking sessions designed to bring families and young people together.

One of the most promising developments is a joint proposal to create dedicated sessions for young men on the estate who may be at risk of criminal exploitation or involvement in county lines. This kind of early, preventative work helps young people make positive choices and thrive in their communities.

Worsley Hall Alliance’s work is proving to be a shining example of how local people, organisations and services can come together to build trust, nurture talent and give young people a voice to create lasting change.
